How we know where the fish are

For every lake and river in the search results we look at research-grade observations from iNaturalist, a community of naturalists whose records are checked by experts. A fish marked "observed" was recorded at that water; "likely" means it lives in that kind of water and has been recorded elsewhere in the state.

Open the page of the fish, choose your state and city, and the list of water nearby is filtered to places where that fish was observed or is likely to live.
